Back to the Polls – 2025 Edition

Back to the Polls – 2025 Edition

March 23, 2025

As expected, the newly minted Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Sunday that Canadians will be going to the polls on April 28.

Once again I have the privilege of being a candidate for the Libertarian Party of Canada (LPoC).

Interestingly, I have never run in the same federal riding twice, and that trend continues with the redrawing of electoral boundaries for 2025.

The LPoC has nominated me to run in Langley Township-Fraser Heights, a brand new riding that I live within.

It includes a large portion of the Township of Langley, minus most south of 40th Avenue (loosely, see map), and includes the parts of Surrey north of the Trans-Canada Highway.

It is shocking how much has changed on the political landscape since I was a candidate in the December by-election for Cloverdale-Langley City – less than 100 days ago!

At that time we saw a Conservative Party candidate’s landslide victory, with Mrs. Jansen acquiring almost four (4) times as many votes as her nearest competitor. We only had 16.2% voter turnout, but it appeared that this by-election was telling us the same thing all the pollsters were saying leading up to the vote – that Pierre Pollievre and his CPC were going to steamroll the Liberal Party of Canada in the autumn of 2025.

But a lot has happened since then.

Justin Trudeau announced his resignation, pending the election of a new Liberal Party leader. Now Mark Carney is our nation’s prime minister.

On top of that, the president of the United States has directed polarizing rhetoric towards our nation and our government, and has signed off on levying numerous tariffs that are having some negative economic impacts, but more relevantly, some mobilizing psychological impacts.

This election will be fought and won over the economy – Trump’s Trade War, Tariffs, Taxes, etc.

What will be missed in all of this is that Mark Carney was previously the governor of the Bank of Canada and also has been governor of the Bank of England.

Central banking is the root of the mess we are in as a society. Men and women in high-back leather chairs are making decisions that are decimating the purchasing power of Canadians, impoverishing some, bankrupting a few, and skewing all market signals that a healthy economy would have.

Criminally low interest rates are throwing gasoline on the dumpster fire that is housing unaffordability.

Rubber stamping government bonds excessively is putting future generations further in debt.

And the legalization of the money tree is perhaps the worst part of the banking system – fractional reserve lending allows the banks to basically print money out of thin air, benefiting themselves, their friends, and government, leaving most Canadians worse off.

Of course there are other issues that are very important as well. Our healthcare system is in shambles and we need to legalize people’s right to take care of themselves. Meanwhile, our government is funding wars in Ukraine, in Israel, as well as subsidizing conflicts all over the rest of the world.

There are other options for voters besides team blue and team red. The New Democrat Party has disgraced itself, supporting Trudeau’s corrupt government for years just to push one big policy (dental subsidies), and the Green Party is losing steam as the major parties are abandoning carbon taxes.

The People’s Party does have a lot of good policies, but are soft on principles.

When it comes time to vote in this federal election please remember that there is no right answer – the only winner is the state.

But a vote for myself or any Libertarian Party of Canada candidate is a vote to make the government’s power so meek that it doesn’t matter WHO is elected.

My Main Focus for this 2025 Campaign:

  1. Reform Central Banking
    1. Eliminate banks’ ability to create funds out of thin air through fractional reserve lending.
    2. Set the Bank of Canada’s goal inflation rate at 0% to end the depreciation of money.
    3. Pass legislation mandating balanced budgets by our federal government.
    4. End the monopoly on legal tender, to allow gold, Bitcoin, etc. to compete as a store of value and as a currency.
  2. Cut Taxation
    1. Eliminate the Income Tax, allowing Canadian workers to keep 100% of the fruits of their labour.
    2. Develop software, utilizing blockchain technology, to facilitate the voluntary and anonymous collection of donations to fund government programs.
  3. Foreign Affairs
    1. Remove Canadian forces from all conflicts and military alliances, including NATO. Any military expenditures should be to upgrade equipment needed to protect our soil.
    2. End the funding of foreign governments’ wants & needs, and reinvest those funds against our debt.
  4. Legalize Healthcare
    1. Alter the Canada Health Act to extend the rights won for the Quebecois in the “Chaoulli v. Quebec” ruling to all the provinces of Canada.
  5. Firearms rights
    1. Eliminate the federal Chief Firearms Officer, make it a provincial jurisdiction.
    2. Eliminate existing registrations in favour of switching to a Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC), ordered directly through the RCMP.
    3. Reverse every gun ban introduced by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party government, reverting 2015 legislation.
    4. Introduce legislation to enshrine the right to self defence on one’s own property (Castle Doctrine) and certain public scenarios.
