Just as the B.C. provincial election ends, it’s campaign time again!
I am running as a candidate for the Libertarian Party of Canada www.libertarian.ca in the Dec. 16 federal by-election for the Cloverdale-Langley City riding.
The Member of Parliament for this constituency John Aldag stepped down to run in British Columbia’s October election for the NDP – and lost, like me! – so now this is an opportunity to replace that MP, even though we will all be going back to the polls by October 2025 (or sooner?).
I actually live in the riding directly to the east of Cloverdale-Langley City, but I do work within the boundaries, and have strong connections to the area. I’ve had a lot of support from people already – people who wouldn’t normally get a chance to help me out with nomination signatures, or even vote for me.
As usual, I have no illusions of getting elected in this trip to the ballot box. The Conservative Party of Canada’s candidate Tamara Jansen has formerly been the MP for this riding, and with the swing towards right-of-centre sentiments recently it seems like a no-brainer that Tamara will get elected again.
But by-elections are a unique opportunity to get a little extra attention from the media because there are fewer mouths to feed, so to speak, because there are not multiple races in each community.
I look forward to getting a chance to represent the LPoC in Cloverdale-Langley City this time around. I won’t have a chance to vote for myself, but it will be the first time these voters have had a Libertarian on their ballot, and hopefully that draws a few more butt off the couch, towards the ballot boxes, on Dec. 16.
I’ll be participating in an All-Candidates Meeting December 2 at 6 p.m., hosted by the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce. The address is 5640 188 Street Surrey. I’m looking forward to getting our message of liberty, freedom, and personal accountability across to potential voters!
Here are some of the key issues for Alex and the LPoC in this by-election:
- Cut Taxation
- Eliminate the Income Tax, allowing all Canadians to keep the fruits of their labour.
- Remove the regressive Carbon Tax
- Maintain the GST as a way to fund minimal government purposes and pay down national debt.
- Reform Central Banking
- End the monopoly on legal tender, to allow gold, crypto currency, etc.
- Set the Bank of Canada’s goal inflation rate at 0% to end the depreciation of money.
- Eliminate banks’ ability to create funds out of thin air through fractional reserve lending.
- Foreign Affairs
- Remove Canadian forces from all conflicts, including UN, NATO, etc.
- End the funding of foreign governments’ wants & needs, and reinvest those funds against our debt.
- Legalize Healthcare
- Alter the Canada Health Act to extend the rights won in the “Chaoulli v. Quebec” ruling to all the provinces of Canada.
- Firearms rights
- Eliminate the federal Chief Firearms Officer
- Eliminate existing registrations in favour of switching to a Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC), ordered directly through the RCMP.
- Introduce habitation legislation to enshrine the right to self defense on one’s own property and certain public scenarios.
