Libertarian Party of Canada announces candidate in by-election

The Libertarian Party of Canada is proud to name Alex Joehl as our candidate for the upcoming by-election in Cloverdale-Langley City.
Alex has represented the LPoC three times historically, most recently in Langley-Aldergrove in 2019, where he was one of the top vote-getters for the party.
Libertarians have not yet had a candidate before in this riding, so hope to make a difference in this by-election, giving a liberty option on the ballot.
“Running in this by-election is important to me because I want to make sure that all voters have a principled, liberty-based option to vote for,” says Alex. “Too often we see many voters stay home on election day because there is no one worth getting of the couch for. I’m here to give them a reason to be part of the electorate again.”
This is a very short election period, but Alex plans to do his best to challenge the other candidates to address some challenges that otherwise would not be brought up.
“Libertarians serve a purpose in elections by raising issues that the larger parties would rather not address, that they’d rather ignore,” says Alex. “For example, the major parties won’t even consider the abolition of the Bank of Canada. The banks, hand-in-hand with cabinet fiscal policies, are the driver of inflation in this country.”
While Alex lives in a neighbouring constituency, he works and plays within the riding’s boundaries, so there is a connection.
“I believe I can represent the needs of the Cloverdale-Langley City riding as well or better than any of the other candidates,” says Alex. “I interact with these residents every day.”
Some of the key issues for Alex and the LPoC in this by-election:
- Cut Taxation
- Eliminate the Income Tax, allowing all Canadians to keep the fruits of their labour.
- Remove the regressive Carbon Tax
- Maintain the GST as a way to fund minimal government purposes and pay down national debt.
- Reform Central Banking
- End the monopoly on legal tender, to allow gold, crypto currency, etc.
- Set the Bank of Canada’s goal inflation rate at 0% to end the depreciation of money.
- Eliminate banks’ ability to create funds out of thin air through fractional reserve lending.
- Foreign Affairs
- Remove Canadian forces from all conflicts, including UN, NATO, etc.
- End the funding of foreign governments’ wants & needs, and reinvest those funds against our debt.
- Legalize Healthcare
- Alter the Canada Health Act to extend the rights won in the “Chaoulli v. Quebec” ruling to all the provinces of Canada.
- Firearms rights
- Eliminate the federal Chief Firearms Officer
- Eliminate existing registrations in favour of switching to a Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC), ordered directly through the RCMP.
- Introduce habitation legislation to enshrine the right to self defence on one’s own property and certain public scenarios.
